I've been growing tropical plants for many years. I bought my 1st property in Hawaii in 1998 and started clearing and planting in 1999. The east side (windward side) of the Big Island is a humid tropical rain forest environment that is great for growing almost anything. I have property at about 900 ft. and 300 ft. elevations and most lowland tropical plants will grow for me. It's a bit too warm for some cloud forest and higher elevation plants which prefer cooler temperatures.
Also, I'm working as a Realtor with Prudential Orchid Isle Properties. The Puna District of the Big Island is still very affordable.
