Theobroma cacao (cacao or chocolate) 5.5 inch square pots
Seeds are the source of chocolate and cocoa butter. Small tree that originated in the Amazon basin but was spread throughout the tropics by humans. Mature pods ripen to red or yellow. Needs shade, high humidity, and protection from wind. Soil should be high in organic matter for best growth. Keep moist since this is a rainforest plant. Organic fertilizers are best. Over fertilizing with chemical fertilizer can burn the roots and even kill the plant. Outdoors in areas that rarely fall below 55 F; USDA Zones 10B and 11.
