Renealmia sp. (5.5 inch square pot)
This ginger has a waxy red inflorescence and dark glossy green leaves. When crushed the leaves release and unusual fragrance. Stems reach 3 to 4 ft. tall. Native to tropical rain forest of South America. Grows well in containers. Prefers slightly acidic soil high in organic matter. Full sun to light shade. Keep moist. Outdoors in Zones 10B to 11. Indoors select a bright spot in a sunroom or window. This species will bloom in a 12 inch pot. Divide when the plant fills the pot.
