Passiflora quadrangularis (5.5 inch sqare pot)
Common Name: giant passion fruit. Large melon sized fruits develop a hint of gold when ripe and the rind becomes soft. Unlike the common passionfruit this one does not fall off the vine when ripe. Vines need a large trellis or sturdy fence for support. Typically starts to bloom at just over a year old. Full sun and warm humid conditions. This species suffers cold damage at temperatures below 35 or 36 F. Best maintained at temperatures above 45 F. Full sun. Fertilize several times per year with a general purpose fertilizer. Seems to grow well in Hawaii with little care. Water during droughts.
