Common Name: Jaboticaba. Small tree bearing sweet purple fruits on trunk and main branches. Flavor is similar to muscadine. Fruits can be consumed fresh or used for wine. Native to southern Brazil. Tolerates light to moderate frost down to about 27 F. Young trees resemble a natural bonsai. Slow growing. Takes about 9 to 10 years to fruit. Full sun in humid areas. Keep moist. Prefers a slightly acidic soil high in organic matter. Use a balanced fertilizer with iron and magesium.
Pot volume of 5.5 inch square pot is ~2.6 liters. Plants are approximately 14 to 20 inches tall and have multiple branches. Approximately 2 to 3 years old.
