Inga sp. (Ice Cream Bean) 4x4x10 tree pot
Common Name: Ice Cream Bean. Family: Fabaceae. Medium to large tree with a spreading crown. Light to medium green pinnate leaves. Pods are about 10 inches long and filled with sweet white pulp around large black seeds. Trees grow quickly under ideal conditions. Slightly acidic soil. Use a fertilizer with iron and magnesium. This species seems to prefer wetter conditions than other similar species that I have grown. Even short periods of drought will slow the growth rate and may cause some leaf drop. All Inga species fix nitrogen and you will see the nodules on most roots; this is a natural symbiosis with Rhizobium bacteria. Out doors in Zones 10B to 11.
