Native to lowland Amazon rain forest. Primarily grows in river valleys. Full sun to medium shade. This plant requires humid conditions and rich soil high in organic matter. Shelter from dry windy conditions. Does not tolerate drought. Use palm fertilizer several times per year. Fast growing when fertilized regularly and kept moist. Outdoors in Zones 10 to 11. If growing in containers be sure to water and bring indoors to protect from cool temperatures.
