Durio zibethinus (5.5 inch square pots) Durian

Durian fruits have rich creamy flavor with hints of fine cheese, walnut or almond and roasted garlic.  Some people can't tolerate the strong smell. But once you taste the fruit the complex rich flavor is excellent.   Trees are native to low elevation tropical rainforest of  Malaysia and Indonesia.  Plants thrive when day time temperatures are 85F to 95F. Prolonged exposure to cool temperatures will result in a decline in vigor or death; best at temperatures above 55F.  This batch of seedlings is from several commercial cultivars that reach 3 to 6 pounds. Durian set fruit best with cross pollination; so seedlings are the result of crossing in local durian orchards.  When known pots will be labeled with the fruiting parent; it is not possible to know the pollen source unless there has been hand pollination.   Grow in a well drained slightly acidic soil. Use a fertilizer with iron, magnesium and other micronutrients.  Outdoors only in Zone 11 or protect from cool weather in the winter.   Plants are typically shipped when 32 to 40 inches tall.
