Chamaedorea tepejilote 2 plants (2.5X7 inch tree pots)
Common Name: Payaca Palm. Clumping palm native to Central America. The male inflorescence is picked prior to opening (it looks similar to an ear of corn). The soft interior is battered and fried or pickled. Also makes a nice landscape plant in the tropics and and warm subtropics. Does very well as a house plant with bright indirect light. Soil should be well drained and high in organic matter. Fertilize with palm fertilizer several times per year for fastest growth. Easy to grow. Few pest seem to bother this plant. But occasional spraying for spider mites or mealy bugs may be necessary; if plants are in shade neem oil works great. Outdoors in Zones 10 to 11. Protect from frost.
