Brownea macrophylla (4x4x10 tree pot)

Large clusters of bright red or peach colored flowers on a small under-story tree. I have the red form in 2011. Young plants are best with some afternoon shade. Keep moist. Use a well drained potting mix high in organic matter. Use a fertilizer formula that contains iron, magnesium and micro-nutrients. This is a rain forest species. Keep soil moist. If planting in the ground, amend the growing area with mulch prior to planting. Growth rates are moderate and trees can bloom at 3 to 4 years old. These are tropical plants and should be protected from cool or cold temperatures. Outdoors in frost free areas; USDA Zone 10B and 11. Photo is of peach flowered form; red form is currently available.
