Aframomum mildbraedii (African cardamom) 5.5 inch square pot
Common Name: African cardamom. Family: Zingiberaceae. Seeds are similar in flavor to cardamom. Native to tropical rain forest of Africa. Red pods are carried just above the ground. Plants reach 5 to 6 ft. tall but can form pods when smaller. Seems to grow well in containers. Full sun to medium shade. Rich slightly acidic well drained soil. Use a balanced fertilizer with micronutrients. Still rare in the US. It is very easy to grow on the windward side of Hawaii island (the Big Island). Outdoors in USDA Zones 10B to 11. I don't know if this plant will tolerate any freezing.
Plants are grown in 5.5 inch square pots (2.6 liter volume) Stems are typically 24 to 36 inches tall. 3.5 lbs. shipping weight.
Certified to ship to all 50 US states.
